About SFS - the Norwegian Support Group for Peace in Sudan

Publisert 27.12.2007
The Norwegian Support Group for Peace in Sudan (SFS) was founded the eleventh of December 1993 in Oslo, Norway. The initiative came from dedicated people who in some way had been in touch with Sudan or had formerly worked in the Sudan-region. These individuals were familiar with the issues at hand, and felt a need to improve the possibilities to achieve peace.

The aim of SFS is to work for peace and democratic development in Sudan:

  1. Support ongoing peace-initiatives.
  2. Influence Norwegian and international governments and organizations to make initiatives and participate in international peace-work involving Sudan.
  3. Keep current with the development in Sudan.
  4. To support ongoing peace-initiatives through:
    • Norwegian and international media
    • Norwegian and international governments
    • Norwegian and international organizations, including the UN, interested people in Norway and their local communities, schools etc.

Over the last few years SFS has arranged at least one annual seminar where the political situation in Sudan and other topics have been discussed. SFS plan to continue this activity.

SFS also operates a mailing-list where subscribers get updated news and information on Sudan.

SFS currently has 240 members and hopes to gain even greater membership in order to have a larger influence.

Membership in SFS is open to all willing to abide by current SFS-regulations and pay the annual membership-fee.
