”How can South-Sudan have a democratic development?”
On July 9 th a new country is born in Africa. The Republic of South Sudan will be declared and will start the long road towards development and democracy. Or? Which are the challenges meeting the new state? What will it take to succeed? What impact will the division of Sudan have on the development in the north? For Darfur? For the region?
Program: Kl. 09.00 - 09.45: ” The division of Sudan in a regional perspective” by Senior Researcher, CMI Gunnar Sørbø. Kl. 10.00 – 10.45: ”Corruption – status from South Sudan” by Senior Adviser, NORAD, Fritjof Thorkildsen. Kl. 11.00 – 11.45: ”How can South Sudan have a democratic development?” By GOSS representative to Great Britain Dr. Daniel Peter Othol. Introduction by GOSS representative to Norway, Bol Wek Agot. Kl. 11.45- 12.30: Lunch. Kl. 12.30-13.00: ”Norway’s role and politics in Sudan after the division" by Senior Adviser, MFA, Liv Kristensen. She has a special r esponsibility for Resolution 1325 and Human Rights. Kl. 13.00- 13.30: ” Sustainable and good governance in South Sudan” by FAFO Researcher Katleen Jennings. Kl. 13.30 – 15.00: Open dialogue and discussion led by Halle Jørn Hanssen.
The seminar will be partly in English.
